The rules are to write up a back cover blurb for a book you have written or would like to write. It should be short, sweet, yet give a sense of people and events without totally spoiling the ending. NaNoWriMo participation is not required, and the blurb may be fiction or non-fiction as you see fit.
Each post should be less than 500 words if possible.

When
sixteen year old Alix learns her purpose in life, to destroy the King of the
First Realm, she can hardly believe her own visions; and neither does anyone
else as Desert Ridge Mental Facilities. Why would they when she doesn't have
any solid memories of her life at all.
After
unraveling disgraceful secrets of the past, Alix watches as Greek myths come
alive and intertwine with beliefs held since the beginning of man. She
discovers that she is the key to opening a doorway; the doorway to the throne
of the Third Realm; and the King will stop at nothing to walk through it.
In
order to stop the King from triggering the Final Battle and obliterating
humankind, Alix knows that she may be forfeiting her own life in return.
But
first, she has to escape her own personal hell, the mental ward.

ReplyDeleteI can see this struggle happening. Nobody listening to her, she's all by herself in this. Lonely world, but the huge obstacle would make for a compelling struggle, which is what keeps people reading! Keep at it. :)

ReplyDeleteI agree with Diane. I'd be reading this story all the way, because I believe in the main character and want her to get through all the big obstacles! Solid conflict!
ReplyDeleteHowdy! Sounds good to me, but the real risk of the situation could be clearer - well, we get a sense of what's at stake for her, but what exactly is the king's plan and why does he want to do it? What's really at risk for humankind? Hmmm..

ReplyDeleteHi Diane, actually yes, Alix does doubt her frame of mind quite of bit in the beginning. It seems like there are so many levels to the story, I just have a hard time making them all come together in a short & sweet little blurb! Not sure how much info is too much and how much is not enough. :) I'm going to be insane myself by the time this whole book is ready.

ReplyDeleteSecond, I love playing with the gray bits of the mind, the dark dusty corners and the self doubt. This has all the earmarks of a great story.
But the details are a little cloudy in the copy.
Anything to do with Greek mythology always peaks mu interest. ;)

An interesting concept, to be sure. I'd like to know why the king needs to die and why Alix needs to kill him, and I'd wager that the answer to that would help a lot in integrating the Greek mythological concepts you introduce.

ReplyDeleteOoh, I always like these story within a story type tales--her life in the mental ward and the fantasy (or real?) story that unfolds in her POV.
ReplyDeleteI like the how the fantasy world building at epic levels led to the most mundane thing of all - the mental ward.
ReplyDeleteThis shows the voice of you mc and creates her universe w/out deluging us with too much info.
My only worry here is that it highlights the archetypal chosen one saves world story more than the spin that makes it original.
